Welcome

Hosted by the LSU Center for Energy Studies, the LSU Institute for Energy Innovation, and the Future Use of Energy in Louisiana (FUEL), the Louisiana Energy Research Symposium aims to bring together energy researchers, companies, policymakers, and regulators from across the state and across disciplines. Participating organizations include the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources, the Louisiana Board of Regents, Louisiana Tech University, Southern University, Tulane University, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Representatives from all fields are welcome and encouraged to attend. Out-of-state stakeholders whose work focuses on energy topics relevant to the Gulf Coast region and Louisiana are also invited to participate.

Motivation and Format of Symposium

Universities play a critical role in convening diverse stakeholders to explore issues of economic importance grounded in science and research. Academic researchers often excel at solving complex technical problems—but at times, they may overlook adjacent areas where similar advances could unlock significant commercial value. Industry engagement can help identify these opportunities and guide use-inspired academic inquiry in commercially meaningful directions.

Similarly, academic work may have important implications for energy policy or regulation, but researchers may be unaware of the policy context or how their expertise could inform decision-making. Listening to and collaborating with policymakers and regulators can shape research to become relevant, timely, and impactful.

To foster these connections, the symposium will feature a mix of presentations from academia, industry, and government. Technical presentations will be delivered in a short “lightning talk” format to accommodate a broad range of topics and encourage cross-sector dialogue. Ample time will be built into the agenda for informal conversations and networking

Submissions

All submissions will be subject to peer review to determine acceptance into the symposium. Please note that papers will not be published in formal conference proceedings. Participation in the symposium will not preclude future submission to peer-reviewed journals.
