A Legacy of Excellence: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. On November 17, 1911, at Howard University, three visionary undergraduates—Edgar A. Love, Oscar J. Cooper, and Frank Coleman—alongside faculty advisor Ernest E. Just, established Omega Psi Phi. The name, derived from the Greek phrase meaning "friendship is essential to the soul," became both their title and motto. Their cardinal principles—Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift—continue to guide the brotherhood today. The Thunderous Theta Kappa Chapter On March 12, 1977, thirteen distinguished men chartered the Theta Kappa chapter at LSU, becoming the first NPHC lettered fraternity on campus and founding LSU's National Pan-Hellenic Council. Over its distinguished 45-year history, the Theta Kappa chapter has flourished, cultivating more than 200 exceptional members who have embodied the fraternity's principles. These "Sons of Theta Kappa" have transcended campus boundaries, becoming pioneers who transformed both university and society. The chapter stands as a testament to brotherhood, academic excellence, determination, and service—a legacy they remain committed to carrying forward for generations to come.
