You will receive an email with your LSU.edu email account name. This is an automated email from the LSU System that will be sent to the email address listed on your VMCAS application. If you previously attended LSU this automated email may not be sent since you have an established account name.
Email service will not be available until mid-July.
You will also receive instructions to access a separate "Workday External Site." This is a separate account that will give you access to your financial aid information and you should follow instructions as outlined in that communication.
Follow the instructions provided in the emails to activate your accounts. After you activate your accounts, it may take up to an hour for the IAM portal to be accessible via Single Sign On (LSUAM SSO). If you encounter any issues you will need to contact LSU IT directly. For troubleshooting, visit this GROK article.
For additional assistance, email SVMAdmissions@lsu.edu with a description of your problem.

Students may live on campus or off-campus. It is ideal to live within 20 minutes of the hospital for the clinical training phase of the program in years 3 and 4. Some veterinary students do live on campus, especially at Nicholson Gateway, an upperclassman housing unit near the vet school.
If you are interested in living on campus, contact both Dr. Delcambre gdelcambre@lsu.edu and housing@lsu.edu to inquire about opportunities. You will have to fill out a housing application once your are admitted into the LSU Workday System later in the Summer (separate from the undergraduate deadlines).
Housing assignments may not be provided until 1-2 weeks prior to the start of class. Dr. Delcambre will confirm with housing an early move-in date for veterinary students.
Email SVMAdmissions@lsu.edu with questions.

If you are interested in being paired with a "Big", share your information about your
interests and hobbies to help us match you with a big at this form:

All students must indicate their intention to be vaccinated through LSU at the Vet
School or by your own provider through the
Rabies Vaccination Plan Form due June 26, 2026.
Students are required to be vaccinated against rabies to participate in live-animal handling labs and clinical experiences. The 2-dose series may be acquired through LSU or independently by the student at their preferred clinic. The 2-dose series will require a titer check before entering the clinics in year 3 of the program. Per CDC guidelines, we accept the 2-dose series; however, the 3-dose series is also accepted.
For those electing to receive the vaccine from an outside provider :
Proof of vaccination from an outside provider or completion of the series through LSU must be completed no later than 45 days AFTER the start of the DVM program. In other words, the vaccine series must be completed soon after you start the program and cannot put off to the end of the semester.
- Send your outside provider, proof of rabies vaccinations to the Health Center once you gain portal access in July.
- Check with your State Health Department. Some states will vaccinate citizens against rabies free of charge. Louisiana does not provide the rabies vaccine to LA citizens for free.
- Call your insurance company to ask whether or not it will cover all or part of the cost (Rabies Vaccine CPT=90675). It is likely most cost effective for you to obtain the vaccines from a provider within your insurance network. This may be your primary care doctor or a pharmacist at a local drug store.
- You may use this webpage for proof of vaccine requirement with your offer letter if your insurance requests proof that it is a requirement for the program.
For those electing to receive the vaccine through the LSU Student Health Center :
- LSU Vet Med Rabies Vaccination clinics take place on the LSU Vet Med campus and are built into your class schedule to avoid course interruptions.
- Vaccines will be administered in August on these dates:
- 1st dose - TBD
- 2nd dose (1 week later) - TBD
- Time has been built into your class schedule, so you will not miss any lectures or labs.
- You must attend both clinics to receive the 1st and 2nd doses within a week of each other.
- Requesting a vaccine indicates that you assume responsibility for the cost of the vaccine. Rabies vaccine is special ordered by the Health Center.
- This year's price is pending. ($420/dose historically).
- Payment options include paying out of pocket, billing personal insurance, or requesting
additional student loan money to reimburse you.
- Payment is due at point of service. Further payment details and final vaccine cost will be provided in July.
Students who opt-out of the rabies vaccine will be required to sign a waiver for opt-out.
If you have questions, please contact Leslie Nevarez for more information.

Fear Free Certification is not required, but students may consider the program prior to beginning the DVM. Year 1 students may consider completing the "Veterinary Professional Certification Program," which is 8 modules. Low-stress handling and Fear Free skills are emphasized in many aspects of our teaching, including Clinical Skills labs and in our teaching hospital. Completion of Level One of this program is highly beneficial and will supplement learning opportunities. Completion of Level One will take approximately 12 hours.
We strongly recommend completion of all three levels prior to graduation. Studies show students who graduate with Level Three certification are more attractive for hire and typically are offered a higher salary.
For questions about fear free training, email Dr. Nancy Welborn (Community Practice).
