February 10, 2025

LSU and LSU of Alexandria have secured two of the top four spots in Niche’s Best Colleges in Louisiana for 2025. These rankings reflect both universities’ commitment to academic excellence, student success, and their profound impact on the state.

LSU’s family of campuses across the state continues to attract and retain remarkable students and, in many cases, have marked record enrollment and commencement numbers.

During LSU’s most recent commencement, LSU awarded a record number of degrees: 2,154, with graduates representing 54 Louisiana parishes, 49 states, and 40 countries.

In the fall of 2023, LSU celebrated continued academic excellence through a record-setting incoming freshman class of 7,494 students and LSU’s most accomplished freshman class ever with a record-high average ACT super score of 26.5 and a record-high average GPA of 3.82.

“LSU has been an absolute life-changer for me,” said one Niche review of LSU. “There is something for you at LSU, no matter what your background is. This place will help you thrive in life.”

LSUA’s enrollment has reached an all-time high of 6,904 undergraduates, marking a stunning 28% increase over the past year—the highest growth rate among all Louisiana institutions. This growth follows the university’s recent milestone of celebrating its largest graduating class in December. A significant driver of LSUA’s growth is its thriving online programs, which have surged by 46% in just one year, now serving nearly 4,000 students. On-campus enrollment has also experienced substantial growth, rising by 9% since Spring 2024 to a total of 2,921 students.

“I have found attending LSUA a delightful experience! The faculty genuinely cares for their students and promotes success. I would recommend LSUA to anyone wishing to pursue a college degree,” another Niche reviewer wrote of LSUA.

Niche’s Best Colleges rankings incorporate rigorous academic, admissions, financial, and student life data. This year, the methodology has adapted to evolving higher education trends, introducing an Economic Mobility Index that assesses the economic advancement opportunities for low-income students while also de-emphasizing standardized test scores in admissions considerations. These updates reflect the shifting priorities of students and universities alike.
