Photos/Video: LSU Breaks Ground on New Residence Halls

LSU leaders, including the LSU Board of Supervisors, broke ground on two new campus residence halls to be built along South Quad Drive.
The project, known as the “South Quad Project,” will add 1,266 on-campus beds dedicated to first-year students. Double-occupancy rooms will be arranged in a pod-style layout, featuring shared lounges and study spaces, to create a more social environment that encourages students to meet, form connections, and build a sense of community.

“Winning is part of LSU’s DNA, and when that winning translates to new spaces that expand opportunity for our students and strengthen our state, that’s the kind of success that defines us,” said LSU President Dr. Wade Rousse.
The project will house the Engineering and Business Residential Colleges and will include classroom space, fitness amenities, food lockers, and new mobile dining options.
“These aren’t just new buildings on a map, they’re communities, they’re the places where students will meet their first friends, find support, and begin to discover what their LSU experience is going to be,” said LSU Executive Vice President Dr. James Dalton.
Students who live in LSU's supportive residential life environment achieve significantly higher retention and graduation rates than students who live off-campus in their crucial first year.
