The Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering offers state-of-the-art laboratory facilities that support both high-quality instruction and impactful research. Our teaching labs provide students with hands-on experience in core areas such as drilling, production, fluid properties, and rock mechanics, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

In addition to instructional facilities, the department houses specialized research laboratories that underpin internationally recognized research in areas including enhanced oil recovery (EOR), carbon capture and storage (CCUS), geothermal energy, reservoir simulation, and well integrity. These laboratories are purpose-built to support advanced experimental and computational studies, enabling innovative solutions to today’s most pressing energy challenges.

The Petroleum Engineering Research, Training, and Testing (PERTT) Laboratory is a unique full-scale industrial facility that enables students and researchers to conduct hands-on experiments under real wellbore conditions, including high-pressure multiphase flow and well control operations.
