Carpenter Shop
The primary function of the Carpenter Shop is to ensure that campus buildings provide a safe and comfortable environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The majority of the work performed by the Carpenter Shop is limited to the interior of buildings, but the staff do maintain various aspects of the exterior of university buildings.
The shop is separated into two groups, carpentry crew and maintenance crew, who concentrate on various aspects of the carpentry trade. The carpentry crew typically manages larger carpentry specific projects, while the maintenance crew manages emergency repairs.
The Carpenter Shop typically handles construction, installation, and repair of flooring, stairs, walls, windows, doors, ceilings, seating, classroom equipment, cabinets, bathroom partitions, and fencing. The group also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects based on LSU Design Standards.
Paint Shop
The primary function of the Paint Shop is to maintain aesthetic appeal and extend the useful life of campus buildings through paint and plaster maintenance. The majority of the work performed by this staff is limited to paint and plaster work, but the group also manages all masonry and tile work. This group handles all painting requests, light sheetrock work, and all interior and exterior plaster projects.
The Paint Shop assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects based on LSU Design Standards.
Roofing & Sheet Metal Shop
The Roofing & Sheet Metal Shop has two primary functions. The first is to ensure that all campus buildings provide a safe and comfortable environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors through the inspection, maintenance, and repair of roofs, while the second function is for the Sheet Metal Shop to support all other Facility Services shops.
The Roofing Shop is responsible for inspections, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of all campus roofs. This scope includes work on clay tile, slate, asphalt, shingle, metal, and low-slope roofs. This group also plays a lead role in the investigation and remediation of emergency roof and ceiling leaks.
The Sheet Metal Shop plays a supporting role to several Facility Services shops. This group is responsible for all metal roofs, as well as sheet metal roofing accessories and gutters, In addition, they are responsible for all fabrication and installation of HVAC system plans and ductwork.
The Roofing & Sheet Metal Shop also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects based on LSU Design Standards.
Elevator Shop
The primary function of the Elevator Shop is to provide safe vertical transportation access for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Elevator Shop provides maintenance, repair, and equipment modernizations for all building vertical transportation equipment, including elevators, escalators, chair lifts, and dumbwaiters.
The Elevator Shop also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects on campus based on LSU Design Standards.
Lock Shop
The Lock Shop maintains and repairs access control systems. The staff cut entrance, door, and specialty keys for file cabinets, elevators, automobiles, etc. The Lock Shop installs and repairs door hardware. In addition to these services, this group utilizes a key tracking software system to maintain a key database.
